This dim Sharpless nebula has quite an interesting filamentary structure reminiscent of a supernova remnant. However, it is classified as a HII emission region with LS I +62 139, a hot O7.5 V type main sequence star, proposed as the exciting star. Literature summary reports, inferred from carbon-monoxide gas velocity measurements, places it in the Norma/Outer Arm at 19,900 LYs distant.
