Sh2-200, also called HDW 2 or the Bearclaw Nebula, is a very faint, evolved planetary nebula in Cassiopeia - not a star-forming H II region, despite its inclusion in the Sharpless catalog. Its distinctive features are a roughly circular inner nebula, about 6 to 8 arcminutes, crossed by dark-looking lanes and a much larger, extremely faint outer halo (extends out to an angular size of 40 arcminutes). Interestingly, the origin of the outer halo is unknown; it may be interstellar gas ionized by the central star or possibly material ejected by the star when it was still in a red giant phase. Note that both the PN and halo show parallel stripes perpendicular to the galactic plane from interaction with the galactic magnetic field. Distance estimates place it about 3600 LYs away.
The open cluster, sitting above the central PN, is Collinder 36 and not associated with the PN.
